The third fundamental, although tedious to calculate, has a
suggested effect on music theory. As it shows the mathematics
behind
consonant and dissonant intervals, in the rules of
western theory. Theory suggests that consonance is pleasing to the
ear, while contrarily dissonance is displeasing. The third
fundamental suggests that the more shared common factors
between two note frequencies, the more pleasing the their harmony
will be. Unfortunately, the previous NFR chart only calculate to the
3rd decimal place. You must consider that each octave
should show
a perfect doubling in frequency. So I will explain the purpose of this
equation conceptually, as we move on.
